Frequently Asked Questions – About Scotland Tours


Where does the tour start from?

Your driver/guide will personally greet you at your hotel lobby on the day of your private tour. Tours can also start from most local airports, train stations, bus stations and cruise ship terminals in Scotland.


How many passengers would be on the tour?

Tours are exclusive only to you and your family/group, no other passengers will be on the tour. Tours can be organised for 1-8 passengers.


What type of vehicle do you use for tours?

We operate two luxury Mercedes mini-coaches. two of the largest and most comfortable minivans on the road and can accommodate up to 8 passengers comfortably. Your vehicle is also fitted out with individual 3 point seat belts offering comfort and safety during your travels. Our vehicles can easily carry luggage for up to 8 passengers, although we would ask if you can limit this to a medium sized case plus hand luggage per person if 8 are travelling, again for safety and comfort. To enhance your experience we also supply a cooler with complimentary water and Scottish music to enjoy during your trip.


What is included in the price of the tour?

Tour prices are quoted per day, and not per person, and vary depending on how many passengers are travelling on the day. Prices include all our services as your private tour guide/driver, vehicle insurance, taxes, all fuel costs, itinerary planning, guides daily expenses, all vehicle maintenance, parking fees, cooler with complimentary water, Scottish music and transfers from your hotel or preferred location.

Please note- prices do not include your accommodation, lunch, evening meals, entry fees to attractions, and ferry costs ( where applicable) unless otherwise arranged by ourselves or client.


Who shall be our guide/driver on the tour?

At About Scotland, all of our driver/guides are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the history and culture of our country Scotland. Our emphasis is all about our ability to be flexible on the days we are touring, and more importantly, we want our guests to have fun and to take home great memories of their tour with us.


Will our guides be with us for the duration of the tour?

Yes we shall be guiding/driving you from when we leave your accommodation in the morning ( approx 9 am) until dropping you off at your hotel/guest house in the evening.approx 5-6 pm) As regards to what to see and do in the evenings? We can recommend the best wee! inns or restaurants serving locally sourced produce including some of the best seafood in Scotland. We can also suggest the best places to enjoy traditional Scottish music. ( mostly weekends)

As regards to visiting castles and other historic locations, we shall personally guide you through most sights and castle ruins. However please bear in mind that some historic castles and stately homes have their own guided tours offering a more detailed perspective on the history of the building.


Are your tours flexible?

Yes, the beauty of our private tours is the flexibility, even after we have set off. We don’t stick to rigid timetables like scheduled coach tours and you won’t be taking photographs of historic locations from a distance. We shall get up close and personal with the best that Scotland has to offer, getting off the typical tourist routes whenever possible and explore many of the highlands beautiful villages and people.


What about accommodation?

We will happily book this for you based on your daily budget and sleeping arrangements. Over the years we have accumulated an excellent list of traditional and modern accommodation. From luxury castles/hotels to smaller traditional inns and guest houses, all to suit individual budgets.

Prices start from around £30-40 per person per night for a b&b. Small guest houses/hotels, £50-70 per person per night. luxury castle/hotels from £70-160 per person per night.
