1 Day Tour: Glasgow City Tour (Scotland With Style)

Experience a private tour around the city of Glasgow’s must visit landmarks. And you will discover a history dating back to the 7th century, when St Kentigern ( St Mungo) established a small church on the grounds where the present Glasgow Cathedral, stands today. Glasgow, is best known for it’s stunning architecture and wonderful museums. A legacy left from wealthy merchants during the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. Today visitors to Glasgow, can experience a city that has reinvented it’s self as a modern Cosmopolitan City, combined with beautiful Victorian Architecture, International Restaurants, and a thriving music scene. Oh!! and a very warm welcome from the people of Glasgow. ( my home town)

Firstly we visit the city’s West End, best known for it’s many fine boutique shops, restaurant’s cafe’s and traditional pubs. However it’s also home to many of Glasgow’s must visit landmarks including the newly opened Riverside Transport Museum. The impressive Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, housing one of Europe’s great art collections, and Glasgow University, founded in 1451, with it’s high Gothic steeple, an iconic city landmark. 

After a mornings tour why not enjoy one the west end’s best known restaurants including the Ubiquitous Chip, situated in trendy Ashton lane. Stravaigin, situated close to the University. Or for lovers of seafood, the Crab Shack, conveniently located close to the city’s iconic Ben Nevis Whisky Bar. 

After lunch we head into the heart of the city to view the impressive 19th century Victorian City Chambers, and a wander around George Sq a real hub of the city for locals and visitors to people watch. Moving on we then visit the majestic medieval Glasgow Cathedral, dating from the 13th century and the only medieval cathedral on the Scottish mainland to survive the reformation in the 16th century.  Situated close to the cathedral is the impressive Necropolis, established in 1831 by local merchants with over 3,000 monuments to view, including the imposing monument of John Knox, dominating the hill top. From the cathedral we journey on to visit the popular Peoples Palace & Winter Gardens, before driving along the banks of the river Clyde to view the city’s iconic Armadillo and newly constructed Hydro. In late afternoon we then make our way back to your accommodation. 

Alternative Tour- Why not combine a half day tour of the city’s attractions. And include an afternoon trip to the ” Bonnie Bonnie” banks of Loch Lomond, and lunch at the excellent Oak Tree Inn. If time permits you can also include a tour of Glengoyne Whisky Distillery.
