Loch Lomond (Luss Village) Inveraray Castle and Pucks Glen.
On this Greenock shore excursion, we visit the beautiful bonnie banks of Loch Lomond and the picturesque conservation village of Luss. Travel over the high mountain passes to the enchanting highland town of Inveraray and it’s spectacular Gothic castle. And explore the magical forest of Puck’s Glen, and learn of the legendary fairies Poca Ban & Ghillies Dhu who protect this beautiful enchanting forest from Ghouls and witches.
Greenock Shore Excursion Itinerary
On this Greenock shore excursion, you will be greeted at the port by your own personal kilted driver/guide, who will then transport you to the beautiful Highlands of Scotland.
Firstly we visit the idyllic conservation village of Luss, situated on the “Bonnie Bonnie” banks of Loch Lomond.
As you wander along the picturesque village and quaint stone cottages, you arrive at the village Kirk ( church) and it’s fascinating churchyard. View the Kirk’s 11th century Viking hogs-back gravestone, a reminder of times when Vikings once plundered local communities in this area.
From the churchyard, we then amble onto the village pier to view the stunning vistas that surround Loch Lomond, take in the magnificent mountains and the lochs’ many islands known as Inch’s.
Continuing on from Luss, we follow the shores of Loch Lomond and into the Highlands where the landscape gives way to dramatic high mountaintops and wide open spaces. As we travel over the dramatic ” Rest and be Thankful” mountain pass and follow the stunning shores of Loch Fyne. We arrive at the pretty highland town of Inveraray. Here you will have free time to explore the towns traditional cobbled lanes and lovely gift shops before visiting the towns enchanting 18th century Castle, it is one of the earliest examples of Gothic Revival architecture. Inveraray Castle is the family home of the “Duke of Argyll” Chief of the Clan Campbell and is one of Scotland’s finest stately homes. For Downton Abbey fans Inveraray castle had featured as Dun Eagle Castle in the shows Christmas episode back in 2012.
Our highland adventure continues as we journey to the beautiful Cowal Peninsula, and the magical secret forest of Puck’s Glen. Be aware as we make the short hike to the enchanting woodland gorge and waterfalls, for local legend has it the forest is home to legendary fairies Poca Ban & Ghillie Dhu who protect the forest from ghouls and witches.
leaving Puck’s Glen we then head to the beautiful coastline around the Clyde Estuary, where we catch the local ferry at Hunters Quay and make the short 30min crossing across the Forth of Clyde too Greenock Port were we sadly say our farewell’s.
