Outlander Location 3 Day Tour Itinerary
You can start your Outlander location 3 day tour from either Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Day 1 – highlights include:-
- The impressive stately home, Hopetoun House, ‘home’ of the Duke of Sandringham;
- Midhope Castle, a 16th Century tower house, featured as Lallybroch, Jamie’s family home;
- Blackness Castle the fictional location of Fort William and “Black Jack” Randells headquarters;
- A photo stop at Linlithgow Palace, where Jamie met his fate at Wentworth prison;
- Doune Castle, portrayed as Castle Leoch the fictional seat of Clan MacKenzie;
- The picturesque village of Culross which poses as Cranesmuir.
We’ll also include a photo stop at the magnificent Stirling Castle, childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots and one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland.
You will return to either Glasgow or Edinburgh this evening and have a free evening in the city
Day 2 – We travel North and the highlights include:-
- Falkland Palace, Set in the picturesque village of Falkland – which doubled as 1940s Inverness in the series;
- The Hermitage, a beautiful wooded glen with picturesque follies and attractive waterfalls;
- The pretty Victorian town of Pitlochry
- The fascinating Highland Folk Museum, a replica 18th village which depicted village life and visited by Jamie and Claire;
- Culloden Battlefield, where you re-live the battle and explore its fascinating story
- Clava Cairns, a 4,000 year old burial site and inspiration for Outlander’s ” Craig Na Dun”
There is a good selection of restaurants in Inverness but they can get busy and booking is essential. Your guide will be able to assist you.
Day 3 – Leaving Inverness and travelling south this morning, highlights include:-
- The enchanting Loch Ness with its famous resident ‘Nessie’;
- The highland town of Fort William
- Photo stop at the moving Commando Memorial which offers fantastic views of Ben Nevis and the spectacular natural beauty of Glencoe
- The option of a stunning, scenic journey to the “Bonnie” banks of Loch Lomond and on to Glasgow or
- The beautiful Falls of Dochart which run through the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park before returning to Edinburgh.
